Still Boiling, Feeling Fall: How I Layer for the In-Between

It's 30 degrees but your brain has already moved on to cosy autumn. Here's how I get the layered look without melting for it.

Nobody warns you about how hard this week is to dress. It's still hot, genuinely hot, but your head has already checked out into cosy autumn everything. The mistake is trying to fix that with more clothes. You don't need more clothes. You need smarter ones.

Smart layering, not more layering

The whole game is picking layers that add coverage and a bit of mood without cooking you alive. Mine is chiffon. If you've got one of those body-tight dresses, the kind you'd wear on a boiling day, don't go and bury it under something heavy. Just throw a chiffon cape over the top. It covers your shape, it moves beautifully, and it flips the entire outfit into something intentional. A plain summer dress plus one floaty layer, and suddenly it reads like you planned it.

That's honestly the whole philosophy: keep the base minimal and summery, and let one light layer do the styling.

Just wear the colour

If I'm obsessed with anything this season, it's colour. The warm, rich, properly-saturated fabrics that are everywhere right now make me stop and stare every single time. This is the season to wear it. A chiffon layer in an actual colour reads ten times more "autumn" than another safe beige ever will.

A small hot take: skip the polka dots

Sorry. They're cute, they're having their moment, I get it. But polka dots are a trend, not a wardrobe. Give it two months and everyone's going to look back at their polka-dot era like, why did I do that. Put your money on colour and texture instead. Those actually age well.

Keep the scarf breathing

When it's this warm, fabric matters even more. A cotton undercap keeps you cool and keeps everything locked in place while you're half-melting on the commute. Stretchy slides, cotton stays. I say it every time because it's the quiet thing that makes or breaks your whole day. Sort your undercap out first, then worry about the rest.

The season turns slowly, so dress for it slowly. One good chiffon layer over your summer basics, and you get to feel autumn without suffering for it.
